As the only Catholic, co-educational high school in the area, Mercyhurst Prep is committed to offering an enriching atmosphere that promotes the development of a well-rounded , life-long learner in preparation for life in our global world.
Student life at the school is rich with possibilities for young adults to discover and develop their own interests and talents. They are encouraged to reach out in our local community as well as the international world to learn first-hand about life and what it means to “pay-it-forward.”
Travel is an important part of the MPS experience and students have an annual opportunity to travel abroad, participate in the Baltimore Mission Experience and /or take part in the Holocaust trip, to name a few.
Activities & Clubs
MPS offers nearly 40 different clubs and activities ranging from Speech & Debate to Feed the Hungry. If, by chance, students are still looking for more activities, they have the opportunity to create a club of their own.
We host 34 athletic teams throughout the fall, winter and spring seasons. Team sports offer something for everyone with opportunities to participate on the varsity, junior varsity, freshman and novice levels. You don’t have to “pay to play” and will not be “sitting the bench” for the season. We are the only high school in the area to host an internationally competitive crew team.
CM expresses in humanistic ways the Gospel message of love and service, inspired by the charism of the Sisters of Mercy, who sponsor MPS, and their foundress, Catherine McAuley. Students participate in liturgical celebrations, prayer, retreats, volunteer service and mission trips. We have 2 full-time ministers and a part-time Chaplain.
Our Creative Arts program staffs 6 full-time and 3 part-time teachers and offers more than 50 courses in performing and visual arts. Students have the opportunity to select areas of interest and levels of competency.
Student government plays an important role in leadership and school decision-making. The school year is rich in activities, ranging from dances, concerts, and after-school movies to the fun tradition of our annual Laker Day celebration that involves the participation of students, faculty and staff.
